Free uniforms, shoes for students Parents urged to cooperate with govt on distribution


Kota Kinabalu: Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad urged all quarters, including parents to cooperate with the Government when it comes to distribution of free uniforms and shoes to pupils studying in government schools.
Pupils will receive two sets of uniform and two sets of shoes each. Jainab said apart from that, one dozen pencils and one dozen exercise books will be distributed to Primary One to Primary Three pupils, while Primary Four to Primary Six pupils will receive one dozen pen, one dozen pencils and one dozen books exercise each.

"We hope parents and teachers would cooperate with us by providing us with the correct size of their children's uniform and shoe size," she said , adding that this was among efforts by the Government to assist the people. "If all goes well, we hope to be able to distribute the uniforms, shoes and stationary perhaps by the first week after school reopens," she told a media conference after taking part in a Gotong Royong campaign at SK Rampayan here, Sunday. The campaign involved members of the Sepanggar Wanita Umno Skuad Sayang, personnel and officers from the Fire and Rescue Department as well as City Hall.

"I also want the schools to make sure the pupils receive the exact number of uniform, shoes and stationery they are supposed to get and should they receive less than that, please inform us immediately," she said. "These facilities are provided by the Government and if there are any weaknesses, we will address and do our level best to improve next year," she added.

"If possible I want parents to give us their children uniform and shoe size as early as June next year, so that we can distribute the items before the school holidays," she said.
